SMOKE-FREE MULTI-UNIT HOUSING EDUCATION EFFORTS
As part of our Community Transformation Grant objectives, we work with property owners/managers in Dane County to educate them about the benefits of implementing smoke-free policies in their rental units. Smoke-free policies are profitable, popular among Wisconsin renters, legal, and easy to implement. Smoke-free policies save owners/managers, on average, 2-7 times when cleaning and turning over a smoke-free unit compared with one that has been smoked in; about 70% of Wisconsin renters prefer to live in a smoke-free environment, whether they smoke or not; there is no state or local law stating you cannot implement such policies in rental units; and the Clear Gains website provides both tenants and landlords resources to help implement and sustain smoke-free policies.
