How can I avoid getting an STI?
The only way to absolutely avoid STIs is to not have sex. If you are sexually active, you can reduce your risk of getting STIs by using "safer sex." This means:
- Using a condom for vaginal, oral, and anal intercourse every time
- Knowing your partner and his/her STI status and health
- Having regular medical check-ups, especially if you have more than one sexual partner
- Free condoms are available through various organizations in the Madison area.
- Get immunized against Hepatitis B and HPV (human papilloma virus)
