H1N1 Flu Information & Resources - Public Health Madison & Dane County

OLDER ADULTS (65 AND OLDER)

Couple
  • Immunization for influenza (seasonal and H1N1) is important for all adults over 50.*
  • Older adults are now recommended to receive the H1N1 vaccine. While older people are thought to be less likely to be infected with the 2009 H1N1 virus compared to younger persons, there have been severe infection and deaths from H1N1 in every age group, including people 65 and older.
    • For information about where to get vaccinated for H1N1 in Dane County, call the 2-1-1 or visit the United Way 2-1-1 Wisconsin Flu Clinic Locator at www.wisconsinfluclinic.info.
  • People who are 65 years and older should seek medical advice quickly if they develop flu symptoms to see whether they might need medical evaluation or possibly treatment with antiviral medications.

*Persons who have a severe (life-threatening) allergy to chicken eggs or to any other ingredient in the vaccine should NOT be vaccinated for seasonal or H1N1 influenza.
