Children less than 5 years of age are at increased risk of complications from the flu; the risk is greater among children less than 2 years old.
- Children - 6 months to kindergarten should be vaccinated for both seasonal flu and H1N1 influenza.
- Since infants less than 6 months of age are too young to receive the H1N1 influenza vaccine, they are particularly vulnerable and therefore those caring for these children should be vaccinated early.
- Keep your children home if they have influenza-like symptoms for at least 24 hours after their fever is gone; be sure child gets plenty of rest and fluids.
- H1N1 Flu symptoms include: fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue; occasionally vomiting and diarrhea.
- Teach child to cover mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing and to wash hands.
