PREGNANT WOMEN
- A pregnant woman who gets any type of flu is at risk for serious complications and hospitalization. In comparison to the general population, a greater proportion of pregnant women infected with the 2009 H1N1 influenza virus have been hospitalized. In addition, severe illness and death has occurred in pregnant women.
- Vaccination is the single best way for pregnant women to protect against the flu. Both the seasonal flu shot and H1N1 flu shot are found to be safe for pregnant women. It is not recommended that pregnant women receive the H1N1 nasal spray vaccine.
- Pregnant women are a high priority for H1N1 vaccine. For availability of vaccine for this high risk group, visit H1N1 Immunization Clinics.
