NON-STORM WATER PERMITS

The City of Madison regulates the discharge of non-storm water (wastewater) into the Madison storm sewer system, lakes, streams or ground surface by Madison General Ordinance 7.47.

Steps for Getting a Discharge Permit

1. Submitting a completed Information Application to the Health Department,
2. Payment of all fees (see fee explanation and schedule), and
3. Approval of the application by the Health Department and City Engineering Division.

The Health Department is responsible for monitoring the wastewater quality. This permit, issued by the City of Madison, is in addition to any State wastewater discharge approval requirements and does not relieve a discharger from the application for said approval.

Who Should Complete Information Application?

• New (first time permit) dischargers
• Permit holders making changes from the previous information application

Submitting an Information Application

The Information Application, based upon best available information, describes the location, source and characteristics of the wastewater discharge.

Submit the completed information application and a $75.00 initial application fee to:

Fee Explanation

Initial Application Fee ($75) - This nonrefundable fee is paid once for each permit and covers application handling and inspections.

Annual Discharge Permit Fee - This annual fee, based upon the annual volume of wastewater discharge, covers the cost of monitoring the wastewater quality and is payable after the application is approved. Permit year begins July 1st.
