Low Cost Rabies Vaccination Available at Annual Clinic

The Madison - Dane County Department of Public Health and participating Veterinary clinics throughout Dane County are announcing the annual low cost rabies vaccination clinic. During the week of February 12th through February 17th, most Veterinary Clinics in Dane County will be vaccinating dogs, cats and ferrets against rabies for $12.00 per rabies vaccination, a substantial reduction. Rabies is a viral disease that infects the brain and causes death. Rabies can infect humans, dogs, cats, ferrets, and any other mammal. It is transmitted in the saliva of an infected animal through a bite, scratch or licking a skin break or mucous membranes. Rabies vaccinations are your pet's best protection against the rabies virus. Dogs, cats, and ferrets should be vaccinated when they are three months old and revaccinated a year later. Rabies vaccinations do not last the lifetime of your pet. Revaccination is required every one to three years. All dogs and cats are required by state and local law to be vaccinated, whether it is an indoor or outdoor pet. What Can You Do? So if you are a PET OWNER and want to take advantage of this money saving opportunity, you MUST call the clinic of your choice to make an appointment. When you call to make your appointment, please inform the clinic if you will require additional vaccinations or services for your pet during your appointment. Any services or medications over and above the rabies vaccination will involve additional charges. Remember, a rabies vaccination makes for a healthier pet and a safer and healthier community. # # #
