Local EMS Agencies Recognized for Flu Vaccination Clinic Efforts

Board of Health Praises Unique Community Service

In a ceremony Wednesday afternoon at Dane County Emergency Operations Center, twelve Emergency Medical Services (EMS) departments were recognized for their volunteer efforts in staffing H1N1 immunization clinics. The clinics, which took place on Saturday December 12, 2009, were staffed by 180 Emergency Medical Technicians and other First Responders who volunteered their time for this unique public health initiative. In a proclamation passed by the Board of Health for Madison and Dane County, these efforts were applauded and the volunteers and agencies were recognized for extending themselves in caring for the needs of the citizens in their communities. As a result of these efforts, more than 1,500 citizens were immunized. Participating EMS agencies which sponsored clinics in their communities were: • Belleville Emergency Medical Services, • Blooming Grove/Burke/Maple Bluff Emergency Medical Services • Cambridge Area Emergency Medical Services • DeerGrove Emergency Medical Services • District One Emergency Medical Services • FitchRona Emergency Medical Services • Marshall Emergency Medical Services • McFarland Emergency Medical Services • Oregon Area Fire/ Emergency Medical Services • Stoughton Area Emergency Medical Services • Town of Madison Fire/ Emergency Medical Services • Waunakee Area Emergency Medical Services. The ceremony concluded with Tommye Schneider, Director of Environmental Health for Public Health Madison and Dane County presenting copies of this proclamation to each agency Director or Chief, in recognition of their outstanding accomplishment and dedication. A full text of the proclamation follows: PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, One of the means used to conduct H1N1 vaccination clinics were clinics conducted by Emergency Medical Services (EMS) in Dane County. There were twelve EMS agencies which conducted H1N1 immunization clinics on Saturday December 12, 2009, with over 180 Emergency Medical Technicians and other First Responders volunteering to staff these clinics. As a result of these efforts, more than 1,500 citizens were immunized. WHEREAS, The EMS agencies worked closely with Public Health-Madison and Dane County Public Health to assure proper storage and distribution of the vaccine. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Health for Madison and Dane County hereby recognizes the EMS agencies listed above for their contribution to the community, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board recognizes that conducting H1N1 clinics is above and beyond the normal course of work for these EMS agencies and applauds them for extending themselves in caring for the needs of the citizens in their communities, BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be presented to each agency Director or Chief, in recognition of the outstanding accomplishment and dedication.
