Immunizations

Eligibility

We give free immunizations to adults who:

• Are 19 years and older, AND
• Do not have insurance that pays for immunizations

We give the following immunizations:

• COVID-19: Currently unavailable until we receive our 2026-2027 shipment. You can subscribe to get Immunization Program updates for when we have doses again in the fall. Look for "Immunization Program Updates" under "Special Topics." 
• Hepatitis A
• Hepatitis B
• HPV (human papillomavirus)
• Inactivated poliovirus
• Influenza (flu): Currently unavailable until we receive our 2026-2027 shipment. You can subscribe to get Immunization Program updates for when we have doses again in the fall. Look for "Immunization Program Updates" under "Special Topics." 
• Meningococcal ACWY
• Meningococcal B (upon request)
• MMR (measles, mumps, rubella)
• Mpox, for people with known exposures. Please call us 608-242-6255, and we can discuss and get you scheduled.
• Pneumococcal conjugate
• Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, & acellular pertussis)
• Td (tetanus & diphtheria)
• Varicella (chickenpox)

We do not give the following immunizations:

• Travel immunizations
• Shingles/Zoster
• RSV (respiratory syncytial virus)

Eligibility

We give free routine childhood immunizations to infants and children (through 18 years of age) who:

• Do not have health insurance, or
• Have Medical Assistance or BadgerCare, or
• Are American Indian or Alaska Native

If your child has private insurance that pays for immunizations, please call their provider.

Does your job require immunizations? You can look up what immunizations you’ve already had in the Wisconsin Immunization Registry.

If your insurance doesn’t pay for immunizations, check above to see what we can provide.

Child Care Providers

All City of Madison child care workers are recommended to get these immunizations (see Appendix III). 

Health Care Workers and Long Term Care Providers

Ask your employer which immunizations are required. Other immunizations are recommended for your line of work.

We don’t give most of the immunizations recommended for travel. See “immunizations for adults” above for immunizations we do give and to learn if you qualify.

Where to get travel immunizations not covered by your insurance

• For students, check your student health services.

If you were vaccinated but can't find your record, here are some ways to find it:

• See if the state where you were vaccinated has an online immunization registry. CDC has a list of other state's immunization information systems.
• Reach out to the health department that vaccinated you.
• Check with your previous health care providers.
• Ask your parents. We've heard of records found in baby books, photo albums, and storage tubs.
• Ask your schools or previous employers. We've heard of schools keeping some of these records for decades. 

If you can't find your record, you can ask your health care provider to do serology. This is a blood test to see if you have antibodies for particular viruses, like measles.

• You can schedule an appointment at our South Park Street Office or our East Washington Avenue Office.
• We provide an interpreter, if needed.
