Aurielle Smith Recognized by the de Beaumont Foundation as a Leader in Public Health

posted

Over the past 18 months, the COVID-19 pandemic has underscored the importance of a dedicated public health workforce, whose contributions often go unrecognized. This week, the de Beaumont Foundation released its new list of the “40 Under 40 in Public Health”, and we’re excited to share that one of our own is among those being honored.

Aurielle Smith joined Public Health Madison & Dane County as the Director for Policy, Planning, and Evaluation just weeks after the first individual was diagnosed with COVID in Dane County. In the months that followed, Aurielle has significantly contributed to our pandemic response, including testing efforts, which involved the creation of a mobile testing model to reach marginalized and underprivileged communities in Madison and Dane County.

In her role, Aurielle also provides strategic direction to the Public Health’s prevention programs, policy efforts, and evaluation initiatives; and is responsible for developing and maintaining a broad strategy for how the agency will advance health policies. Aurielle played a key role in the creation of the county’s comprehensive violence prevention plan, the goal of which is to increase collaboration and coordination among violence prevention and intervention service providers.

Aurielle had this to say about the honor:

“COVID-19 response work has been tough, challenging, and rewarding. During this time we have had a chance to serve our community in new and different ways, and I look forward to applying those to other areas of our public health work. I am honored to receive this recognition and opportunity through the deBeaumont Foundation. I look forward to engaging with the other honorees.”
